Roxane Cohen Silver

  • Vice Provost, Institutional Research, Assessment, and Planning

Roxane Cohen Silver, Ph.D., is a distinguished professor of psychological science, public health and medicine at UC Irvine, having joined the faculty in 1989. She assumed the role of Vice Provost of Institutional Research, Assessment, and Planning in October, 2021. Vice Provost Silver oversees IRAP, engages in academic and strategic planning, co-chairs the Academic Planning Group and other campus workgroups, and supports the Provost’s and Chancellor’s agendas.

Ryan Cherland

  • Associate Vice Provost, Institutional Research

Joining IRAP in 2012, Ryan oversees the strategic directions of the Institutional Research and Assessment teams while working to develop campus resources useful in decision support. Involved with institutional research activities since 1985, he has a Ph.D. in higher education administration with a minor in educational psychology research. His principal professional areas include institutional and academic program management and their comparative metrics and rankings. He is active in professional organizations and is a past president of MidAIR, a past Council chair of the AAU Data Exchange, and currently serves as treasurer of CAIR.

Paul Kang

  • Associate Vice Provost, Institutional Planning
  • Accreditation Liaison Officer

Paul joined IRAP in 2021 and leads the Institutional Planning unit. His areas of expertise include campus-wide and discipline-specific accreditations, academic program planning and reviews, quality assurance, assessment, and student success. He earned a Ph.D. in organizational communication at UC Santa Barbara, and his research interests include organizational conflict, leadership, and teamwork development.

Ryan Hoadwonic

  • Director of Institutional Research Operations

Ryan has been a part of IRAP since 2010, and he is currently responsible for the daily operations of the institutional research function. In this capacity, he provides leadership and guidance, project management, and decision support. He has been working in higher education since 2005 and has a Master’s degree in Anthropology.

Aliana Flores

  • Senior Research Analyst

Aliana joined IRAP in 2013. Before coming to UCI, she earned her bachelor’s and began her career in institutional research at the University of Southern California. Her primary responsibilities include providing analyses and information in the areas of student enrollment, retention and graduation, admissions, and degree completions; preparing responses to requests for data from federal, state, and higher education media; and developing and maintaining data dashboards for departments on campus and those found in the IRAP Datahub.

Preston Reed

  • Principal Research Analyst

Preston has been an Anteater since he was an undergraduate in 2001, earning his Bachelors, Masters, and Doctorate (Psychology and Social Behavior – 2012) degrees at UC Irvine. Preston has been in the field of Institutional Research since 2013. Joining IRAP in 2014, he is primarily responsible for requests concerning faculty and staff data, including research metrics, scholarly productivity, and pay equity.

Joshua Saldana

  • Principal Data Scientist

Joshua has been a Principal Data Scientist with IRAP since 2014. Some central areas he works on includes equity gaps in student success, metrics for cross-institutional comparisons, and developing statistical models to evaluate the campus’ strategic goals. Joshua previously worked as an institutional researcher in Cal Poly Pomona and earned his doctorate in Sociology from UC Irvine in 2014, focusing on higher education.

Angela Teshima

  • Principal Research Analyst

Joining IRAP in 2018, Angela is primarily responsible for analyses of various undergraduate student data, including enrollment patterns and student surveys. She earned an Ed.D. in Educational Leadership from California State University, Fullerton. She also conducts qualitative data analyses and responds to student data ad hoc requests.

Venette Van Duyn

  • Director, Assessment

Coming to UCI in 2012 as Director of Assessment, with the role joining IRAP in 2022, Venette oversees and supports the assessment of student learning outcomes at all levels of the institution—including undergraduate and graduate programs, general education categories and courses, and institution-wide core competences. The assessment activities inform institutional decision-making, planning, and program improvement, and support Academic Senate reviews and regional accreditation. She has a Ph.D. in Industrial/Organizational Psychology, and her professional focus centers around guiding assessment work to support student success.

Angela Miu

  • Principal Research Analyst

Angela assumed responsibilities as coordinator for UCI’s University of California Undergraduate Experience Survey in 2015 and is a part of the assessment and research unit that joined IRAP in 2022. She performs analyses that focus on undergraduate experiences that support program reviews and student success outcomes. Angela has an M.S. in Biometry from the University of Southern California.

Twyla Tanaka

  • Principal Assessment and Research Analyst

Joining IRAP in 2023, Twyla collaborates closely with program faculty to design and facilitate assessment activities aimed at evaluating student attainment of learning outcomes. As the primary liaison for graduate assessment, she provides support in curriculum mapping, rubric development, and data analysis to inform institutional planning and decision-making processes. Twyla has a B.A. in English and an M.A. in Demographic and Social Analysis from UC Irvine.

Andrea Bell

  • Strategic Program Director

Andrea began her career with UC Irvine in 2002 and joined IRAP in 2016. She oversees special projects and campus-wide initiatives, ensuring alignment with institutional goals and objectives. Andrea’s responsibilities also involve liaising with various stakeholders including administrators, faculty, staff and the local community to secure support and foster collaboration. She earned a Master Degree in Education and a Certificate in Counseling from the University of Canterbury in Christchurch, New Zealand.

Stephanie Andrade

  • Analyst

Joining IRAP in 2023, Stephanie’s responsibilities primarily relate to academic program development, campus and discipline-specific accreditation, educational policy research, and data analysis. She joined the Anteater community as an undergraduate student in 2014 and later began her career at UCI in 2020. Stephanie earned a Master of Public Policy from the University of Chicago.

Connie Sawyer

  • Executive Assistant to VP and AVP

A member of IRAP since 2017, Connie provides a broad range of executive and administrative support for the Vice Provost, Associate Vice Provosts, and IRAP team members. She is the primary point-of-contact for executive calendars, meeting coordination, and general office inquiries. Prior to joining UCI, Connie worked in the corporate world supporting executives at Taco Bell International for 17 years and in the pharmaceutical industry for 10 years. Connie graduated from Westmont College (Santa Barbara, CA) with a B.A. in English.
